General Information for Seniors/Parents at Graduation

  1. Students must wear their cap and gown. Tassels are worn over the right eye.  Do not change until directed. Honor cords should be worn properly.  The double cords should be draped from back of neck to front with tassels in front.  If you tie the cords together with a knot in the middle and put the knot under your collar, the honor cords will look neat and stay in place.
  2. The graduation gowns are very thin. If you are wearing a white gown, you should be dressed in white or very light colors.  If you are wearing a crimson gown, you should wear dark colors.  Shirts should have a collar; a tie is optional.  NO SHORTS. NO JEANS. NO FLIP-FLOPS.  If you show up in jeans, shorts, or flip-flops, you will not participate in the ceremony.
  3. No cap or gown decorations permitted (except honor cords awarded by NCS).
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Question - What is the date, time, and location of the NHS graduation? Answer - Graduation will be held at White Field on Saturday May 24th at 10 am. In the event of rain, we will delay the graduation start time throughout the day on Saturday (and Sunday if necessary) to keep graduation outside.
2. Question - How many guests can attend the graduation? Answer - We will make every effort possible to hold graduation outdoors at White Field (see #1). There is no limit to the number of guests who can attend if the event is held outside at White Field. However, if we must move graduation indoors to the Gym, guest tickets will be limited to 3 guests (not including the graduate) per graduate.
3. Question - Do seniors need to attend graduation practice on Friday May 23rd ? Answer--YES! Seniors planning to participate and walk in the graduation ceremony must attend graduation practice on Friday May 23rd at 10am (White Field). Practice is important as we will rehearse for this formal and exciting event. Also, seniors will receive their 3 rain tickets at practice in the event of an indoor graduation. This message will give seniors plenty of time to rearrange work schedules. Practice should last no longer than 1 1/2 -2 hours.
4. Question - How does my child receive their diploma if they do not participate in the graduation ceremony? Answer - students not participating in the graduation ceremony can pick up their diplomas in the high school main office on Tuesday May 27th or throughout the summer from 7 am-3 pm.
5. Question- What if I still owe school fees?  Answer - If you still owe school fees, you still have time to pay them! If school fees are not paid, seniors are still able to participate in the graduation ceremony but will not receive their diploma until fees are paid. School transcripts are also held until fees are paid. Families eligible for free lunches may be able to have fees waived if the free/reduced application is completed and on file.
 6. Question - How should my child dress for graduation?  Answer - seniors participating in the graduation ceremony must wear a cap and gown. Ordering information is still available in the high school main office (HUB). Additionally, students must dress appropriately, as this is a formal event. Specific details regarding attire are found in the attachment to my email. However, please note that shorts, jeans, and flip-flops are NOT permitted! Students are not permitted to decorate their caps.
