Graduation Information

Due to ongoing inclement weather and the current forecast for this Saturday, Newark High School Graduation will be held in Jimmy Allen Gymnasium (Main gym) on Saturday, May 23rd at 10am. Doors will open at 8:30 am at the athletic event entrances.

Graduating seniors need to report to Newark High School no later than 9:00 am. I would advise reporting by 8:45 am. Students—please park in the back parking lot off of Shields StreetPlease remember that traffic will be heavy and our ceremony will start promptly at 10 am. Our ceremony is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes in length.

Newark City Schools will run buses from the former State Farm Building (1440 Granville Street) to Newark High School for those of you who wish to avoid the traffic and parking. Buses will run on a continuous loop starting at 8:15 am until the start of the ceremony. After the graduation ceremony, buses will make continuous loops back to State Farm. There will be a bus available to transport our guests needing handicap accessible transportation.  Families are encouraged to carpool whenever possible.

Please see the attached parking maps in this email.

Graduating seniors who plan to attend and participate in the graduation ceremony MUST attend graduation practice at Newark High School on Friday May 22nd at 10 am. The practice should last approximately 1 1/2- 2 hours. Students can dress comfortably and casually (they will not need to bring their gowns).

Please note:  Students will receive their 4 guest tickets for Saturday’s graduation ceremony at graduation practice.  We will not reissue lost tickets.  Students, do NOT lose your tickets!

Students must wear cap and gown to participate in the graduation ceremony. You are not required to use our provider of gowns as long as the cap and gowns are the same colors used by NHS. Appropriate clothing with the gown must be worn. No shorts or flip flops (safety/trip hazard) allowed. Students are NOT permitted to decorate their graduation caps!

Prior to graduation please make sure all school fees are paid. Our finance secretary can be reached at 670-7417. Students receiving free/reduced lunches may be eligible for some fee waivers. The high school is not permitted to waive other fees. Any fee waiver requests must be made to the District Treasurer.
